Can Children Attend a Sound Bath? Our Age Guidance Explained

One of the questions I am often asked is whether children can attend our regular sound baths.

My regular sound baths are suitable for those aged 12 and over. This guidance isn’t intended to exclude younger children—it is there to help protect the calm, restful experience that everyone in the room has booked and arrived to receive.

Why are regular sound baths for ages 12+?

A regular sound bath involves lying or sitting quietly for an extended period while listening to a range of instruments, tones and vibrations.

During the session, people may enter a deeply relaxed or meditative state. Some may fall asleep, while others use the time to switch off from busy thoughts, release tension and simply be still.

To support this experience, the room needs to remain quiet and settled. Participants need to be able to stay reasonably still without talking, playing, getting up repeatedly or needing to leave the room.

For many younger children, this can be a lot to ask—and that is completely understandable.

Every child is different

Children cannot be judged by age alone. Some are naturally calm and enjoy stillness, while others need movement, interaction and stimulation. Neither is right or wrong; they are simply different.

Even with children aged 12 and over, parents or carers are best placed to consider whether they will feel comfortable lying quietly for the full session.

The sounds of gongs, crystal bowls and other instruments can also be powerful and unfamiliar. A child who is sensitive to sound may not enjoy the experience, even if they are usually happy to sit quietly.

If you are unsure whether one of my regular sessions will be suitable, please contact me before booking. I will always answer honestly and help you decide.

Why quiet matters during a group sound bath

People attend sound baths for many different reasons.

Some may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or exhausted. Others may be carrying grief, experiencing difficulty sleeping or simply needing an hour away from the demands of everyday life.

When somebody has finally allowed themselves to relax, sudden talking, movement or disruption can bring them straight back into a state of alertness. Maintaining a peaceful room allows everyone to feel safe, comfortable and able to fully settle into their own experience.

It also means that parents and carers can relax without worrying about whether their child is becoming restless.

Children’s sound baths

Although my regular sessions are for ages 12+, I also offer sound baths created especially for children.

These sessions are designed with younger participants in mind, allowing the experience to feel more relaxed, accessible and age-appropriate. Children can become familiar with the instruments and experience sound in an environment that better understands their natural need for curiosity and movement.

If any children’s sound baths are currently scheduled, you will find them listed on the Events section of my website.

Please check the information on each individual event before booking, as age guidance and arrangements may vary between different sessions.

Choosing the right experience

Sound can be a beautiful experience for both adults and children, but the setting needs to be right for the people attending.

My 12+ guidance allows our regular sound baths to remain peaceful, while separate children’s sessions give younger participants an opportunity to explore sound in a way that is more suitable for them.

Thank you for understanding and helping me preserve the calm atmosphere that makes our sessions so special.

If you have any questions before booking, please feel welcome to contact me.
